almond + chocolate + honey baklava braid
alright, alright, alright my sweet friends i promised you a dessert that only takes 5 minutes, yup i said it, 5 minutes to prep and today i am delivering you that dessert!
now that 5 minutes doesn't include the baking time but you can't really beat 5 minutes to prep a delicious, flakey, chocolatey, dessert and be mad there is time needed to bake this scrumptious bite of heaven. which i may add if you are serving it to guests they are going to think you spent wayyyyyy more time than 5 minutes, so that's a win in my books... and if you are mad well then i suggest you cut up an apple for dessert, because ain't nothing that easy!
but in all seriousness this dessert is an easy 5 minute prep and really does taste amazing and people really will think it took you a whole heck of a lot more time to put together. when you tell them it really didn't you can send them here so they can make their own at home too!
the other best part, there are only 2, yes yes yes, 2 main ingredients! 5 minute prep and 2 ingredients?? i mean come on, my solomon could put this baby together. ok, well not really because he would eat it all before he put it together and that would only take him like 30 seconds to do so that is a bigger win in his books but i think you get my drift.
now i did jazz it up by adding some slivered almonds and then honey after this chocolate puff braid was baked and honestly they make a huge difference. mainly the honey, drizzling it on after the braid comes out of the oven while it is still warm and cooling gives it an almost baklava like crust. seriously one heavenly bite my friends. it's like an almond, chocolate, baklava braid! heck i might even just call it that!
almond + chocolate + honey baklava braid
ingredients
1 pre-rolled puff pastry (you can use the unrolled squares too)
2 100 gram chocolate bars
1 egg
1/4 cup slivered almonds
2 tbsp of honey
directions
defrost the rolled puff pastry (this is not included in the 5 minute prep haha) and preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
once the puff pastry is thawed, leave it on the parchment paper and roll it out just slightly, unless you are using the large un-rolled square then roll it out to approximately 10x12 on a piece of parchment paper. place one chocolate bar in the middle and break off about 1/4 of the other chocolate bar and place it at the bottom of the first one. you just want about an inch of pastry on either end so you may only need to use one chocolate bar depending on the size of your puff rectangle.
cut lines into the edges of the dough so that you are able to braid it around the chocolate (see middle photos above for detailed cuts), making sure to have an equal amount of cuts on either side of the bar. i had 8 cuts on either side and also an extra cut in-between each braid that i took out, this is totally optional and you don't need to take anything extra out!
fold the top and the bottom ends over the chocolate first, then cross the side strips over each other to make the braid, if the braid pieces are too long you can cut them and then tuck in the nub underneath.
whisk the egg up and brush it over the puff pastry & sprinkle a little sea salt and the almond slivers.
bake for 30-35 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
once it comes out of the oven, drizzle with honey and serve warm!
